A Fourth Generation Montanan, Raising a Fifth
Jesse was born and raised in Anaconda and attended college and law school at the University of Montana in Missoula.
From a young age, Jesse was taught the importance of a Montana work ethic, which was instilled in him by his mother and late father, who built a construction business and taught their children the value of rolling up your sleeves and doing whatever it takes to get the job done. His many years as a laborer and heavy equipment operator still shape his approach to solving problems today.
With his parents as an example, Jesse has devoted himself to doing whatever it takes to fight for Montana families. After working for a law firm, Jesse has dedicated his career to Montana public service. From representing his hometown in the state Legislature for over a decade, to serving as an Assistant Attorney General and Special Assistant United States Attorney, to being the top lawyer in the State Auditor’s office, Jesse has the energy, experience, and commitment to be an effective Montana State Auditor.
Jesse’s record of standing up for Montanans includes prosecuting the longest-running Ponzi scheme in the state’s history, helping obtain over $100 million in restitution for victims of securities fraud, and supporting legislation to increase penalties for fraud targeting the elderly.
Having grown up at the feet of the Anaconda Range just miles away from the Continental Divide and some of Montana’s most pristine wilderness, Jesse has a profound appreciation and understanding of the important role public lands play in Montanans’ lives each and every day. In his years of public service, Jesse has always been a champion for keeping our public lands in public hands, and as Auditor he will continue to protect them from out-of-state special interests.
